The Society for Neuroscience (SfN) North Central Florida Chapter hosts two major outreach events for K – 12 students in Alachua County to learn more about the brain!
Brain Bee
Alachua County Brain Bee is a free, all-day neuroscience competition for middle and high school students! Students are be quizzed with trivia on various neuroscience topics, such as development, learning, memory, addiction, anatomy, and disorders. The top three winners of the Brain Bee receive a cash prize, and the winner gets to compete in the National Brain Bee! It’s like a spelling bee, but for brain facts!
Brain Awareness Week (BAW)
Brain Awareness Week is a global campaign celebrated in March to increase awareness of and enthusiasm for brain sciences! Society for Neuroscience members from University of Florida visit schools in Alachua County to lead neuroscience lessons, hands-on activities, demonstrations, and games.
Brain Awareness Week is celebrated in 120 countries by more than 5,600 partners and is coordinated by the Dana Foundation.
