The Spring 2025 GatorWISE dates and topics are:

February 22 and 23: Veterinary Research Science

Mini Vet Camp is designed for students interested in veterinary science. Participate in hands-on activities and interact with UF Vet School researchers and gain a practical understanding of animal care and health management. Explore the important topic of antibiotic resistance and its impact on both animal and human health. With a mix of lab work, discussions, and live demonstrations, this two-day nonresidential camp provides a brief introduction to the veterinary field and the challenges its professionals face today.

Suggested Grade Level: 9th – 12th grade students that have taken Environmental, Life, or Health science classes.

March 29: Clockwork Biology: Exploring Circadian Rhythms

Sleep is more than just rest—it’s a process guided by your body’s internal clock, which is influenced by specific genes. In this one-day workshop, we’ll explore how circadian rhythms regulate sleep, metabolism, and overall health, and how factors like light exposure and daily habits can disrupt them. Through hands-on activities and real-world examples, we’ll look at the connection between genetics and sleep patterns, as well as ways to support healthy rhythms for better focus, energy, and well-being.

Suggested Grade Level: 10th – 12th grade students that have taken Biology, AP Biology, Life, or Health science classes.

April 19: From Molecules to Machines: Chemical Engineering

Explore the dynamic and fascinating world of Chemical Engineering! Chemical Engineers have skills to design processes to produce anything made by chemical or biological means, including consumer products, food and beverages, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, biomaterials, pulp and paper, and much more. This workshop features hands-on activities that highlight various applications of Chemical Engineering, from DNA editing to chocolate production. If you’re interested in learning about technological applications of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, this workshop is for you!

Suggested Grade Level: 10 – 12th grade students that have taken Biology, Chemistry, or Physics.
